Control & Automation Specialist

 

The Control & Automation Specialist is responsible for all aspects of operation and maintenance of Client’s control and safety system to ensure both short and long term safe, reliable, and cost-effective production in accordance with company policies and relevant government standards and codes.

This position will be based on the Client’s SAGD facility in Fort McMurray, AB.

Rotation: 14 days on, 14 day off

Responsibilities

·       Control and safety system configuration, commissioning and startup including BPCS, SIS, PLC, SCADA Pack, OPC and PI.

·       Operation, troubleshooting and maintenance of control and safety system.

·       Oversee control and safety system performance and responsible for routine maintenance and optimization of control network.

·       Troubleshooting and maintenance of DeviceNet, Modbus and wireless system.

·       Provide technical support and coordination to plant operators, other tradespeople, and professionals.

·       Review control and safety system service contracts to ensure they provide the services and support required to keep the system meeting the plant need.

·       Maintain a filing system for all the vendor drawings, manuals etc.

·       Participate in ongoing improvement of preventive maintenance plans to improve plant reliability.

·       Support maintenance team with control system and safety system upgrades and expansions.

·       Support system recovery plan and disaster recovery plan.

·       Respond to emergency calls as required.

·       Ensure that all work done complies with the Client’s Sustainable Development Requirements.

·       Reports to Control and Automation Lead.

·       Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

·       Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Computer, or Chemical Engineering, or other related discipline and relevant Technologist Diploma.

·       Minimum 10 years’ experience in supporting plant O&M activities;

·       Experience in instrumentation and control technology, control, and safety system software applications: BPCS, SIS, PLC, HMI, SCADA, Data Historians and Alarm Management Systems.

·       Experience with control and safety system hardware and software design, configuration, and system support:  Honeywell Experion PKS, Allen Bradley PLC, Matrikon OPC, OSI soft PI, Schneider SCADA Pack and Honeywell one wireless would be an asset.

  • Knowledge of Virtual machine environments, Cisco switches, DeviceNet, Modbus and radio communications will be also an asset.

·       Experience working in a SAGD facility.

·       Valid driver license and clean abstract required.

·       Current confined space entry, First Aid, WHMIS, H2S Alive, Fall Protection, CSTS-09 and OSSA certifications.

·       Strong problem-solving skills.
